Is Work from Home RIGHT for You?
Is it your dream to start a work-from-home? Running your own business at home means no commute, no big overhead expenses, and goodbye to many of the hassles we face in our working lives.
But is it right for you?
Here are some things to think about before you dive in.
Firstly, let me share my story! When I first decided to start an online business I had NO clue what to do or HOW to get started. I wasn’t even sure if its for me. But deep down I just knew I wanted to be my OWN Boss.
I love the idea being my own boss working my own hours and taking time off when I want to. I have been bullied very badly in the work environment. It took a lot of toll on me personally, financially and mentally. I didn’t want to be in this work environment, I didn’t want to work for bosses anymore. I wanted to do something that I am passionate in and to help people.
Blogging has always been my passion, it still is, it wasn’t until about 5 years ago I started to get serious about my business and I LOVE it! I’ve helped people transform their lives and they are living the life they’ve always dreamed of.
However, I’m not going to sugar coat and tell you it is easy and simple. Being your own boss has its challenges and getting started has its challenges. If you are someone who loves a challenge then this is for you. I always believe when you are challenged you grow.
It is important to have a coach or mentor that is there for you when things get difficult or you’re not understanding or you are lacking confidence. I love being a coach because I know and totally understand the frustrations that comes with it and not being able to get the technical side of things and lacking confidence in areas. I want to be there for new or old bloggers who are getting started or already have a business.
Best part of being your own boss is you can go traveling or away on a holiday and make profits even while you’re sleeping. You can do so much once you get started. On the other hand it is about having a mindset. And, learning to build a team around you, a team you can trust.
Below are things I like you to think about…
You’re Your Own Boss
One of the biggest challenges of working from home is that you have no boss or coworkers to keep you on track. If you decide to spend a few leisurely hours scrolling through your Facebook feed, there’s nobody there to tell you to get back to work. It requires self-discipline. On the other hand, some people discover that they thrive when left unsupervised.
If it’s tough to know whether this sounds like you or not, you can try working at home in stages. Start with a few hours in the morning or evening. Choose what sorts you before you dive in completely. Have a yourself a note pad and write down the hours you want to work and what days you like to work whether it’s 3 days or 4 days. You might want to work only 4 hours or 5 hours. And write down what days you like to have a free for yourself. For example you might not want to work on a Wednesday or a Friday. Keeping that day for yourself. You can also read ‘What You Need to Prepare Your Business’ HERE!
You Can Maintain a Work-Life Balance
Most people who are new to working at home struggle with striking and maintaining a good work-life balance. If you don’t leave work at the end of the day, you might be tempted to keep working, especially when there are so many things to do. You also might face interruptions from your personal life while working.
The best way to confront this challenge is to realise what a formidable challenge it is and take steps to combat it. Create a separate space for your work at home. Set a work schedule and let family members know you’re busy during this time. Resist the urge to check email when you’re not “on the clock” and turn off notifications. These are just a few things you can do that will help maintain balance.
It is especially important that you don’t get distracted when you get started. It is easy to do I have done this get distracted then I realised I’ve lost the time I could be using that time learning skills. It is a good idea to organise time limited for social media. Max is 90 mins a day that is all you need.
Working at Home Can Be Lonely
Many people who work from home find it to be a lonely experience. You lose the commute and all the hassles of working at the office, but you also lose the social contact. However, there are some ways to cope with this, such as scheduling social time or taking breaks to talk with friends or family members.
When I started my online business, I didn’t feel lonely, in-fact I enjoyed this quite time where I am able to focus on what needs to be done and learning. I kept in touch with family and friends I chat to regular. I normally put 10 minutes aside to respond to their emails or text messages and I make time to catch up with them for a coffee.

Do You Have the Space and Facilities?
One of the main reasons businesses need a physical location is production and storing inventory. If you’re going to sell physical items through a home-based business, you’ll need someplace to keep your stock and that place might be the corners of your living room!
On the other hand, if you’re offering web-based services or you don’t have physical products, this is a good option. You can sell digital products such as eBooks, or you could sell the products of others through affiliate sales or drop shipping where they handle storage and delivery for you.
The Challenges of Running Your Own Business
Starting your own work-from-home business presents many challenges. You have to have an entrepreneurial spirit. There are many moving parts to running a business, whether it’s from home or not. However, you can learn the skills you need to run a business if you have the desire to do it.
Don’t let anything turn you away from getting started. It is good to get started and try it out. You never know you may like it, love it and want to continue. All it takes is learning what to do and learn from mistakes. The most important of getting started is having a COACH/MENTOR that is there for you. You may need to try out a few coaches by having a session call with them to see if you are comfortable with. It’s trust that you need. That is the most important part.
