Is Kindness Back in Style?
We’re living in a world where kindness can sometimes seem like a forgotten relic of yesteryear.
If you log onto social media at any given moment, it seems like people are all too ready to rip into each other in a variety of ways.
They’re arguing about politics and social policies of the day. They’re criticizing each other’s parenting styles. The arguments seem to lack a common element of respect for a differing viewpoint.
Can we work on this?
Is kindness in order?
How can we bring back kindness to our social world… or is it already here, and we just have to look more closely to find it?
You might get the sense that no one cares, and that kindness is at an all-time low, especially when you read the mental health stats.
Suicide rates are reported as rising. Bullying doesn’t seem to be going away either, despite the constant warnings about how damaging it is to emotionally and socially torment our fellow humans, kids especially.
But let’s not forget that as unforgiving as the internet can seem, there’s a powerful force for good at work here.
At the other extreme, some days you might hop on Facebook and see things coming up in your social media feed that truly amaze, warm the heart and restore your faith in humanity.
You’ll find folks dipping into their own family’s grocery money to help those in need and do it in a heartbeat. There are an astounding number of active, worthy causes making the rounds at any given time.
And on any given day, you’ll witness many, many people reaching out to others for validation, love, support and understanding… and receiving it in great abundance!
People are doing things like walking for suicide awareness. The anti-bullying initiatives abound. And yet, why do we need reminding of the simple act of being good to each other?
Deep down, humans are still kind when it counts. Sometimes, though, it just doesn’t seem that way. But with a little help from our friends and encouragement from each other, we can each do our part to make the world a kinder, gentler and more considerate place for all.
Do you ever think about how to show kindness to your fellow humans?
What simple, meaningful gestures can you offer as way to deepen the connection with others and share love in small yet memorable ways?
Remember, I believe in you
much love
